In the summer of 2006 our daughter was born with a number of medical issues. As of the summer of 2008, she still has a number of medical and developmental issues including hearing loss in both ears, a tracheotomy, a g-tube with fundoplication and missing semicircular canals, just to name a few. Needless to say, the past two years have found our family searching for any and all resources we can use to help our daughter develop and thrive. Whether it is different therapy methods to aid in her development, advocacy organizations to help traverse the red tape of insurance and state programs, or support groups, both online and in real life, we have spent a lot of time and effort to find the information and resources. I was also diagnosed in early 2006 with Young Onsets Parkinson''s Disease while in my mid-30s. During the past two and a half years, I have been searching for resources for myself, whether to help me cope with the disease with support groups, or to find information about new treatments and drug studies. My family has been lucky enough to receive help from a number of friends, family members and acquaintances who are familiar with issues in medicine, public health, insurance, the law and special education. However, many other people are in similar situations and do not know where to find the information they need. I thought that a community-created website, like Wikipedia, would be the best way to get information to people. That is why I created BDeev. The site is a directory of resources and information about health, healthcare and tangentially related issues and content. You can add, revise, comment and rate resources as well as provide other information that you believe others might find helpful. "" |
